Is LG Electronics pivoting towards the software sector now that smartphones are no longer in production? That’s an unavoidable issue in light of the fact that South Korean tech majors today announced a mobile application for pedestrian safety. And last week, LG announced that the FOSSLight (free and open source software light) system, an open source software management tool, will be available to outside developers for free.
Now, as it was back then, the word from LG analysts is that they aim to increase their presence in the software community.
App for pedestrian protection
But what’s interesting is that despite LG’s discontinuation of smartphones, the new app is branded as a “smartphone solution for pedestrian protection.”
An app named Soft V2X stands for V2X “Vehicle to Everything” and can alert users to the risk of pedestrian-vehicle collisions and the possibility of vehicle-to-vehicle collisions.
V2X is a technology aimed at enabling data exchange between the vehicle and its surroundings.
The app’s communication system raises driver awareness of potential dangers in the future and dramatically improves collision avoidance.
The technology also improves traffic efficiency by providing warnings of upcoming traffic congestion and proposing alternative routes.
This app can analyze user’s position, direction of movement and speed data on the cloud system in real time. If there is a risk of accident, alert the user with sounds, vibrations and warning messages.
According to LG, this app helps avoid accidents in vehicle blind spots and bad weather.
LG added that it would expand its partnerships with other companies and carry out various demonstration projects before commercializing Soft V2X.
After announcing in April that it would abandon its smartphone manufacturing business, LG decided to focus on communication technology research and development activities.
LG is currently expanding its research and partnerships with others to accelerate the trend of digital transformation.
