The South Korean tech giant already selected 500 software experts who are now conducting various customer value projects in the areas of robot, home appliance, LG ThinQ and IoT applications.
The company’s internal software certification program kicked off in 2010 for architect experts and has since been expanded to include five other domains of expertise. Candidates in each field are selected after a strict screening process of up to eight months.
On Tuesday, LG Electronics said it held a virtual certification award ceremony for 51 high-performing software experts who were selected through internal competitions that measure their skills through presentations and project demonstrations.
Among them, AI and big data experts performed field-oriented projects in connection with Seoul National University, KAIST, Carnegie Mellon, and Toronto University.
LG Electronics researchers who participated in a big data expert course deepened their knowledge in advanced statistics, machine learning, and data modeling through a 7-week program at Seoul National University. They returned to work and conducted company projects for two months, while receiving coaching from SNU professors.
Unlike existing lecture-oriented curriculums, the new program was conducted in a way that solves R&D field tasks, and AI experts received guidance from each university for 16 weeks, and successfully conducted various projects such as voice intelligence, image intelligence, control intelligence, and source algorithms, a company official said.
The selected software experts are responsible for developing innovative software and improving software performance for LG products and services. They will also act as mentors for employees.
