As Jared wraps up his review of the LG Velvet, news comes of the affordable flagship going on sale at Verizon from August 21st. Sporting a great mix of hardware and a new design language for LG, the Velvet is on sale from most retailers for $599. Which makes it entirely puzzling that the very same handset will be sold by Verizon for $699.
Admittedly, Verizon will be the only US retailer where you can buy the LG Velvet in the stunning Aurora Red color, but is that worth an extra $100? Perhaps the ability to work on Verizon’s 5G UWB network as well as its 5G network that will soon roll out is worth the extra cash?
As they always say, though, buy the phone for what it can do right now, not some feature that is labeled as ‘coming soon’.
Just to recap the Velvet’s hardware, it has a big 6.8-inch OLED display with FHD+ resolution, a Snapdragon 765G processor, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, a 4,300mAh battery, a trio of rear cameras consisting of a 48MP Wide, an 8MP Ultra-wide, and a 5MP dedicated Depth sensor. It runs Android 10 out of the box and it also looks pretty sweet on the outside.
So, if you really must have the LG Velvet in Aurora Red, Verizon is your only option and it will cost you $699 from August 21st. If you don’t mind the color, buy it from AT&T for $599 and pocket the $100 saving.
