Despite the 17-inch format, the LG Gram 17 belongs to the group of slim and mobile office laptops. Its weight of about 1350 grams (~2.98 lb) remains below that of most 14 and 15.6-inch laptops. This is achieved by a consequently light build. The case is made from a magnesium alloy and inside the laptop is only what is absolutely necessary.
The laptop is run by a Core i7-1065G7 processor that offers sufficient performance for office and Internet application. While it is able to offer short performance bursts, the operating speed drops under constant load. LG seems to have preferred silent operation over maximum performance here. And it can even be quieter, with the LG Control Center offering an option to activate a silent mode. The CPU will then run at a significantly lower speed and the fan will remain deactivated most of the time.
The CPU is accompanied by 16 GB of working memory (DDR4 3200, dual-channel mode), consisting of one 8-GB module and 8 GB of memory that are soldered in. The built-in NVMe SSD offers a lot of storage space (1 TB) and fast transfer speeds. There is also an option to insert a second M.2-2280 SSD into the laptop. A Thunderbolt 3 port allows connecting a docking solution or an external GPU. Power Delivery and DisplayPort via USB-C are also supported.
The IPS display (2560 x 1600 pixels) in the 16:10 format scores with a high brightness, good contrast, stable viewing angles, a decent color reproduction, and acceptable color space coverage. Unfortunately LG is using a model with a reflective surface. Optionally, a matte model would be better suited here.
