Most people like having access to a washer and dryer at home, but wish they would take up less space. LG thinks it has a solution to that problem, and it's called the LG Washtower.
Set to be officially introduced at IFA 2020 early next month, the LG Washtower is a pretty simple idea. LG combined a washer and dryer into a single tower unit, and in the process saved on space, components, and energy use.
LG says the Washtower is 87mm shorter than the average combined height of separate stackable units, which makes it easier to reach the top-mounted dryer. And because it's one unit, there's only one control panel to interact with at a convenient height. Both units can cope with big loads, though. The washer has a capacity of up to 17 kilograms, while the dryer can handle up to 16 kilograms.
Choosing to buy a Washtower also comes with some eco-benefits. LG has made the two units work together, so the washer tells the dryer what settings to use based on the contents of the wash. It will also preheat the drum of the dryer just in time for the wash to finish, and in the process help cut down on overall laundry times. The Washtower also includes LG's TurboWash 360, which can clean big loads in under 30 minutes, and Artificial Intelligence Direct Drive, which optimizes wash times based on the volume and delicateness of the load.
Pricing has yet to be revealed, but it will likely be confirmed during IFA 2020 starting on Sept. 3. As for availability, LG is launching the Washtower in the US first in September. Hopefully it costs less than buying two separate units and is small/light enough to make delivery and installation easy to manage.
