At the beginning of the month, Samsung announced an ultraviolet disinfection box for phones and other small personal effects such as glasses and masks. The box not only disinfects the phone but can also charge it wirelessly if the device supports wireless charging. It turns out that LG also has its own UV sterilizer for phones but it doesn’t seem to be available for sale.
The LG UV phone disinfection was included in the LG Velvet review unit shipped to XDA-Developer writer, Max Weinbach. As you can see in the image below included in his tweet, the device has LG Velvet inscribed on it. There is also a lightning logo which might mean that the box is also capable of charging devices.
Unfortunately, the device doesn’t seem to be available for purchase. We checked the official LG Korea and LG US websites but didn’t find it listed there. Hopefully, LG will make it available to the public soon.
There are a bunch of phone sterilizers you can purchase for your device that will kill the germs on your device. So if Samsung or LG’s sterilizer isn’t available, you can pick one up from a third-party, just make sure you read the reviews. Another option to keep your phone clean is by using recommended cleaning procedures you can carry out at home.
